What is the WRAT-5?
The WRAT5 is a nationally standardized, one-on-one assessment that measures key academic skills. It evaluates how well a student has developed foundational learning abilities, making it a dependable and efficient way to monitor progress across grade levels.
The WRAT-5 Assessment is an approved option to satisfy the PEP annual testing requirement and may be used in place of an annual portfolio evaluation, per the Unique Abilities scholarship guidelines.
This assessment focuses on three core areas:
-
Reading – Measures word recognition and decoding skills, indicating how effectively a student can read and interpret written words.
-
Spelling – Evaluates the ability to accurately write letters and words from dictation, reflecting early literacy and language development.
-
Math Computation – Assesses the ability to solve fundamental math problems using operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
The WRAT-5 is designed to be brief and straightforward, requiring minimal preparation. Its shorter format makes it especially suitable for students who may have difficulty with long testing sessions or experience test-related anxiety.
