Karen DeStefano
I’m a Philadelphia native who attended Rosemont College, where I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a certificate in Art Therapy. Throughout the years, I have worked in various mediums and continue to explore the use of diverse materials. I’ve worked in early childhood art education, creating curriculum and teaching in a play-based preschool center in an underserved urban setting. I’ve also worked one-on-one in special education with elementary-aged children. I enjoy teaching young artists because of their enthusiasm and willingness to experiment with new ideas. After relocating to West Palm Beach with my family in 2017, I’ve enjoyed the South Florida landscape, which has inspired my recent artistic direction. Getz Arts was created to bring music and arts into the lives of young students. The enrichment programs serve the homeschool communities in South Florida. Beyond art, I indulge in my passions for cooking and travel, which fuel my creativity and provide insights into diverse cultures. My journey as an artist and educator reflects a deep-seated dedication to nurturing creativity and fostering connections through art and exploration.

I’ve been passionate about music since I was nine years old! Over the years, I’ve participated in numerous theatrical productions, vocal groups, and string ensembles and choirs. I’ve always loved teaching children, so I combined that with my love of music by becoming certified with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and completing Kindermusik training in 2014. The following year, I opened Stringing it Together, offering mommy-and-me programs and building a community-based string and choir program through private and group lessons in beginner piano, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and advanced violin.
For over two decades, I’ve had the privilege of performing and teaching in local churches, ensembles, and schools—sharing music through vocals, instruments, and theater. I hope to impart the thrill of mastering any medium of musical performance to students with the passion past teachers exemplified, having learned firsthand that the Suzuki concept “Every Child Can” rings true. I pray that the Lord uses me to help show both students and parents that every child really can learn music and grow through it!

I'm a first-generation homeschool mom of five, and my journey began in 2012 after my second grader was struggling with reading in public school. I learned about homeschooling from a neighbor, and it changed everything. Since then, I've graduated my two oldest children—one pursued trade school, and the other went on to college. Now, I'm homeschooling a middle schooler, an upper elementary student, and a kindergartner.

I began my homeschooling journey in 2020. I was welcomed into a wonderful co-op, where I discovered that homeschooling looks different for every family. I found a community I could both learn from and contribute to. I’ve taught elementary grammar and spelling, assisted with upper elementary science, and helped with summer Bible camp. I’m happy to be part of your homeschooling journey with your children.

I started my homeschooling journey in 2009 and have truly enjoyed leading and learning alongside my three children throughout their education. I’ve led elementary science and toddler/pre-K classes in the co-ops our family has been part of. I’m passionate about working with children—both in school and church ministries—helping them grow in knowledge and sharing my love for Christ.

I have always had a passion for working with children. From a young age, I dreamed of becoming a teacher. However, my path led me in a different direction—I became a medical assistant. It wasn’t until I had my two sons that I chose to pursue homeschooling, and in 2020, our homeschooling journey began. Both of my boys have thrived in this learning environment. With the knowledge and experience I’ve gained, I hope you feel confident in allowing your child to be part of our educational journey.
